In November 2010, we launched the first members-only platform built exclusively for Notary Signing Agents—Notary Reviews… The Good, Bad & Ugly!™.
Notary Reviews™ was created out of necessity.
At the time, the industry was shaken by fraudulent and malicious attacks against Notary Signing Agents on two now-defunct websites operated by signing service owners. Targeted notaries were hit with false accusations and fabricated reviews that severely damaged professional reputations. Many in the industry believed these attacks were retaliation meant to distract from the growing number of legitimate negative reviews being posted about those same companies.
Notaries had no protected place to defend themselves, no accountability, and no safeguard against anonymous attacks.
So Notary Reviews™ was born.
During my initial investigation into the fake NSA reviews, I noticed something troubling—only three signing service companies were listed as “members” on each of the fraudulent notary websites. That alone raised serious red flags.
Shortly after launching Notary Reviews™, a fellow Notary Signing Agent contacted me with disturbing news: my own name had just appeared on one of those same bad review websites. When I checked for myself and saw that it was true, I felt physically sick.
What made the situation even more alarming was that I had never worked for either of the signing service companies connected to that site. Yet there it was—my first publicly posted negative NSA review—completely false.
The timing could not have been worse. I had just launched my notary public business alongside my legal document preparation services and was re-entering the real estate field independently after years of working as a real estate paralegal. The potential damage a single fabricated review could cause at that moment was devastating—both personally and professionally.
That experience confirmed what I had already begun to suspect: this wasn’t about truth—it was about control, retaliation, and intimidation.
And in that moment, Notary Reviews™ stopped being just an idea.
It became a mission.
Those signing service owners who attempted to destroy the reputations of hardworking Notary Signing Agents gravely underestimated the strength of our community. Their campaign of libel and intimidation was effectively over almost as soon as it began.
Word spread quickly throughout the NSA community—thanks in large part to the relentless efforts of NSA James Dawson, along with several other dedicated professionals. Together, they organized an extraordinary response, flooding website hosting providers with formal complaints about the fraudulent sites.
Their persistence worked.
One by one, those malicious websites were taken down. It didn’t happen overnight. It took the determination of many—truly many—resolute Notary Signing Agents who refused to remain silent in the face of injustice. But in the end, the truth prevailed.
Our purpose remains exactly the same today as it was then: to protect Notary Signing Agents from the “Bad & Ugly” signing service owners who continue, even today, to take advantage of NSAs—and too often get away with it.
This platform exists because of the community and for the community. Its power comes from your voice. By sharing your reviews, ratings, and experiences, you help protect fellow NSAs from unethical practices and empower others to make informed decisions.
Help us help you. Join Notary Reviews™ today.
In 2017, I created the Notary Reviews…The Good, Bad & Ugly!™ Facebook group. The group still exists today, but it now operates as a private NSA community for verified members only.
In the early days, the group grew rapidly—so rapidly, in fact, that during the vetting process we discovered something unexpected. More signing service owners, title agents, and other industry insiders were joining than actual Notary Signing Agents. That discovery was the primary reason the group transitioned from public to private.
To this day, Notary Reviews™ remains one of only a handful of private NSA groups not owned or controlled by a signing service, title agency, or other company that hires Notary Signing Agents.
For that reason alone, NSAs should exercise caution when posting in industry groups that are publicly accessible or operated by companies within the signing industry. Public posts can be viewed by anyone—including competitors or companies you may be reviewing positively or negatively. In some cases, those posts can lead to consequences such as being removed from vendor lists or blacklisted altogether.
Unfortunately, that is not speculation—it is something the owner of this site has personally experienced.
The initial list used to create our first Notary Reviews Client List (NRCL)—now known as the NSA Reviews & Ratings Directory—began as my personal notary client list. It was compiled from various online sources and maintained as a simple Excel spreadsheet.
As the community grew, however, the list expanded at an incredible pace. Eventually, the spreadsheet format was no longer practical for managing the volume of information we were collecting. To better serve our members, we transitioned to an online platform that allows us to efficiently add, organize, and update our directory.
Our mission, goals, and purpose remain the same today as they were at the beginning: to provide members with up-to-date information on the thousands of companies that hire Notary Signing Agents—many of which are unknown to most NSAs.
We believe in open communication, honesty, and transparency. Our commitment is to continue delivering reliable resources and quality services that help build long-lasting relationships with our members and support the growth of their NSA businesses when applied effectively.
Integrity, trust, honesty, and NSA privacy will always remain the top priorities of Notary Reviews™. Protecting the privacy of Notary Signing Agents is central to our mission.
For this reason, every member undergoes a vetting process to help ensure that those participating in our community are actively working Notary Signing Agents—not signing service owners or other industry entities with competing interests. Over time, we strengthened our verification procedures to better distinguish between notaries who actively conduct loan signings and those who primarily operate signing service businesses.
Because these principles matter deeply to us, Notary Reviews™ will never link members’ comments, reviews, or ratings posted on our website or within our Facebook group to their personal member profiles. Doing so could potentially expose members to professional harm, including the risk of being unfairly removed from vendor lists or blacklisted due to their honest feedback.
Protecting the voices of our members—while safeguarding their professional opportunities—remains a core commitment of the Notary Reviews™ community.
Let Notary Reviews™ help you build your NSA business—one step at a time.
At Notary Reviews™, we believe in open and honest communication with our members. We remain committed to delivering on our promises and building long-lasting relationships by providing reliable resources and support for the Notary Signing Agent community.
